A luxurious bedroom is great for sleep and relaxation. That last thing you want when you enter your bedroom after an exhausting day and see a mess of bedding, mismatched nightstands that are too small to hold your book, and old and boring light fixtures.
You can add luxury to your bedroom without breaking the bank. It’s just about removing all the dated, old, or stained items or simply refreshing the bedding, and adding more interesting furniture and lighting.
Install a headboard

A custom headboard can make your bedroom more luxurious. Choose wood, velvet, or cotton, and search for patterns that match your style. Ensure you measure out a template on the wall so you’ll know exactly what size your headboard will be. Having select pieces in your bedroom that go the extra mile and are custom creates a unique look and is always luxurious.
Find antique furniture

Find interesting antique or custom nightstands or dressers. Gone are the days of having a matchy-matchy bedroom set. You can mix vintage and modern or different warm woods together. It creates a sophisticated and curated look. If you go the custom furniture route, either DIY or hire a furniture maker, plan to design the custom pieces to work best for you. Do you need a different sized drawers or concealed drawers to keep the kiddos away from specific items?
Unique light fixtures

Always replace the builder-grade light fixtures. Going with more unique fixtures is the least expensive way to make your bedroom more luxurious. Choose pedants for either side of your bed or an adjustable sconce for reading a book. Replace the ceiling fan if you don’t ever use it or the boring central light with something organic or ultra-modern. If you have tall ceilings, go for a beautiful chandelier.
Update the trim

A lot of homes have trim downstairs but maybe only tiny baseboards trim upstairs. Some bedrooms completely lack trim. So install some crown molding, baseboards, or wall trim like panel molding or beadboard. Focus on real wood trim, not Home Depot stuff; it’s thin, flimsy, and looks cheap. You could do this over a couple of weekends, and it would greatly impact the space.
Neutral bedding

Neutral layered bedding always looks lux. Choose to layer your bedding with different textures and subtle neutrals. Add a colorful throw and pillows to complete the look. A rule of thumb I like to follow is white or a small print on the sheets, a thin coverlet, and a thick comforter. Add faux fur, a super soft throw, rich or earthy pillows, and a patterned lumbar. Select all sorts of different textures and the bed will look so comfortable and lovely.
Add a rug

Remember an area rug under the bed. If you have wall-to-wall carpet with a thick pile, that can also look luxurious, just ensure it’s not competing with other elements in your room. If you have wood floors, add an area rug under the bed. I recommend 8×10 at minimum in the bedroom. You’ll want the front legs of the nightstand on the rug. A rug adds texture to the floor and can tie the room together with color, pattern, or texture. And yes, hardwood is best in bedrooms, but it’s nice to have a rug to step on in the morning because it is warm and cozy.
