Are you frustrated or overwhelmed with snooty interior design magazines and home decor websites? I’m Lauren, founder and editor of Simple Design Tips, a brand-new interior design publication for people just like you. As an interior designer with over ten years of experience, I, too, am sick of the pretentious nature of the industry. So this is me doing something about it, and I’m excited to share what I’ve learned over the years!
I launched this design blog to showcase my unique take on interior design. I have more of a complex view of design; the home should function for all. I am big on universal design because space should function for anyone regardless of mobility and be beautiful.
I have many people asking about aging in the home. And even though this has been a significant consideration in interior design for decades, it still needs to be mainstream, especially in residential design. And that makes sense; we only think about aging or how we will be able to use our space once it’s too late.
That’s unfortunate because we don’t build homes like we should. They go up as quickly and cheaply as possible, which means we won’t be able to set up the house like we want, and we will not be able to use parts of the home as we age.
I am highly detailed and enjoy timeless, functional, beautiful, and easy-to-clean interiors. I want Simple Design Tips to provide a different viewpoint to homeowners.
How do we make this space function better? Which areas should we invest in our home, and how much? What design styles are trending and which are timeless? How do I make my home more functional for children and grandparents?
I also reject most publications that look to make interior design unachievable and snobby. Where they brag about artwork and furniture worth tens of thousands of dollars, we should buy quality over quantity, not things that will show other people how much money we spent. I don’t care about the prestige of design and want a space to work for everyone and offer my advice.
I will offer articles on the best paint colors, designers’ best lists, beds, vanities, how-to’s and floor plan advice, and anything else design. Now, there will be deep dives into aspects of Interior Design. Some of those topics will be Home Investment, like how much to spend on a kitchen renovation, sustainable design, and accommodating aging in place.
I hope you enjoy reading and happy designing!
