Selecting light fixtures can be overwhelming these days. There are so many options, and they all start to look the same. You must look at the size and try to visualize if it will work in your space. But sometimes you want a nice light that easily replaces existing lights.
So, I have a list of just a few lights I have used many times and what I like about them, whether that’s price, style, or overall appeal. I’ve selected pieces for every part of the home, and even though I have purchased hundreds of lights for clients, this list is by no means all of the light fixtures.
Flush Mount

The Bargeni Flush Mount Ceiling Light from Amazon is an excellent place to start. It’s a simple light fixture with a little extra detail. The price point is great to buy many of these lights to replace the builder-grade light we see in almost every home, otherwise known as the boob light. You can easily replace those with the Bergeni light and even put them in a small walk-in closet, guest room, or any room in the house.
Wall Sconce

The Phansthy Industrial Wall Lamp is an industrial sconce for a modern or Scandinavian home. However, you can use it in any style, especially if trying to mix traditional with modern. I’m very particular with the lamp shades on any lamp. I like milk glass or a ceramic shade so the light gets filtered beautifully. But there are uses for a clear glass shade, for a fireplace or accent lighting. Or maybe a soft light for a bedside table. The goal of these lights need to be for accent or ambiance because the light isn’t getting filtered its not always a great light source.

I’m a big fan of long candlestick sconces, and the Seton Sconce from Williams Sonoma is perfect. I love these fixtures for a hallway, fireplace, or up the stairwell to create soft light and guide the way. It’s also dimmable and is great for a dynamic lighting plan. At night, I love to turn these on, and the ceiling lights off and dim them low so the kiddos can see or when we go up to bed. They seem very romantic to me and bring some old-world charm.
Chandelier

The Bella Island Chandelier from Shades of Light is a beautiful modern yet traditional chandelier. It’s beautiful above a large island or dining table. It comes in aged brass, which is perfect if you’re looking for an unlacquered brass look but want it to stay a consistent color without needing to be polished. This is something of a statement piece and will look luxurious in a new or vintage kitchen. I’ve seen these kinds of lights for sale from other retailers for a ridiculous amount.
I’m all for buying quality, but when light fixtures get above the $800 mark, it’s more about the brand than the light. I often recommend high-end lights for my clients because they want them to last decades and want to buy the brand. Still, most of us need a better price point when we’re just trying to replace a light fixture over the weekend.
Bath Sconce

I have been a fan of the Ridged Austin Bath Sconce from Shades of Light for a few years. It has an Art Deco feel look as well. It feels old and unique. The glass has a nice reeded texture and comes in four finishes: brass, black, chrome, and satin nickel. It’s perfect for any bathroom or laundry room. It’s also available in a 2, 3, or 4 light fixture, so you can ensure you purchase the right size fixture for your space.
Pendant

Sometimes, we can fit an oversized pendant in our kitchens. Finding the right-sized fixtures can be challenging whether you have a small island or peninsula. The Eastmoreland Pendant from Rejuvenation is a gorgeous small pendant perfect for these small spaces. It comes in every finish imaginable and 2 shade designs. If you want the light fixtures to be subtle and let the kitchen or large island stand out, these pendants work well because they are a subtle layer to the kitchen and don’t steal the show.

2024 trends say the cage or woven lights are done. I have to completely disagree. Sometimes, having a more sculptural light fixture for your dining table or kitchen is excellent. These lights also tend to be more budget-friendly, so it’s a win. What I love about the Hchunqjor Coastal Woven Pendant is that it has a sculptural look, it’s oversized, which is always a luxurious look, and it has a coastal feel without being to the nose.
